It's official. We're Moving!

After several years of planning, months of looking, weeks of negotiating, days of lost sleep, and hours of tedious work, WE HAVE A LEASE! The positive vibes from my wonderful readers made all the difference.

Instead of getting my lovely wife a box of chocolates for Valentines Day, I gave her a washer and dryer instead.  Well sort of.   From the time of purchase, our laundry room has served double duty with the shop.  My wife LOVES taking a freshly washed piece of clothing from the dryer, and just ever so slightly brushing it against the machine, only to realize it is now covered in some form of wood dust.  So to preserve our marriage, I decided to move our opperation a few miles from the washer and dryer.

The new space is 2500 square feet of pure joy.  2000 feet of heated warehouse, and 500 feet of office/showroom.  It is nicely tucked in the back of a shared parking lot right off of a major thoroughfare in South West Portland.  Across the street is a wonderful park that runs adjacent to the Willamette river.  To and from home, 14 minutes.  To downtown, 6 minutes.  To the interstate, about 4 minutes.  The location couldn't be better.  In addition there are countless places to dine/drink/relax and take in the nice weather right out my front door.

From a woodworking perspective, the space great too.  A standalone building with a nice roll up door, good natural light, 11 foot ceilings, endless supply of 3 phase power, nice flat concrete floor, 2 venting fans, large furnace, and heat-pump.

Since access to the building, I have been unfolding several little treats left to me from the former tenants.  So far my favorite was the stolen road sign indicating there is 'construction ahead' printed in sparkly orange paint that was being used for a small floor build up.

I also never knew there was such thing as an 18 gauge framing nail gun.  Did you?  One entire wall and door were being held together with a complete box of brads.  Oh my........

The move will truly facilitate so many things that will improve my company.  Work flow and efficiency will be the first to be affected.  The type of projects I feel equipped to handle has instantly grown.  The list goes on and on.

I've got to head back over there to meet my electrician and patch some concrete.

Thanks for reading and the support!

Cheers.

  2. Congratulations Jason, You must be stoked. Just remember, you don't have to fill the whole thing with machinery. In this market flexibility is key. Good luck! I'm pretty excited to follow your progress.

  3. Mmmmmm, I can smell the fresh laundry now! Did you know that regular laundry does not smell like cedar? Or walnut? Or cherry? NO! Most people's laundry smells like fresh spring rain! And now mine will too! :) Good job sweetie, I'm proud of you!

  6. Thanks for the note Rowe!

You should stop in some time to catch up. Our old location will eventually get turned into something wonderful, however now I'm spending all my extra time and money at the new place. :) I'm sure you can understand that.

    Cheers!
